A five-year commitment

The Peter & Elaine Chortek BRIDGE Initiative

Building Resilient Identity & Deep Global Engagement

Adolescence is when Jewish identity is either claimed or quietly set aside. The Peter & Elaine Chortek BRIDGE Initiative exists to make sure San Diego teens claim it — with confidence, with pride, and with a sense of belonging to a Jewish people far larger than themselves.

BRIDGE — Building Resilient Identity & Deep Global Engagement — is a five-year commitment of the Chortek Weisman family to strengthen Jewish identity, leadership, and global connection among San Diego teens. Peter and Elaine Chortek z"l were known for their humility, their fierce Jewish pride, and their devotion to tikkun olam. Peter never forgot the dignity his family was shown through an interest-free loan from Hebrew Free Loan. Elaine gave her life to Jewish education, legal advocacy, and community service. Together they gave generously and thoughtfully, always with a long view toward the future of the Jewish people. BRIDGE carries that view forward.

A portfolio built for teens

Over five years, the initiative supports a portfolio of programs that reach San Diego teens where they are and open the wider Jewish world to them.
